VISIONLAND OPENS NEW ATTRACTION FOR THE 1999 SEASON

Wild River Gorge expands Celebration City

Guests can experience the fun, thrills, and excitement of riding down a river with white water rapids and other special effects, on VisionLand Theme Park’s $4.9 million Wild River Gorge. The "river rapids" ride will reflect the growing popularity of white water rafting.

Throughout the journey, the current of the water will propel the boats. The boats, which hold six riders, will bounce and spin, so that the ride experience with speeds up to 13 feet per second is indeed lifelike. The ride will operate throughout the duration of the regular operating season. The 14 boats can accommodate approximately 1,000 guests per hour. Ride time is approximately three minutes and 20 seconds, and the river course is 1,500 feet long.

Theming and special effects include a river setting and ride elements such as, a whirlpool and cave, geysers, waterfalls, wave machine generated waves, and two huge 30-feet long, 28,000 pound screw pumps. New merchandise and food locations will open this summer in the area surrounding Wild River Gorge. Souvenir photographs will be sold at the merchandise location.

Wild River Gorge was manufactured by German-based F.A.B., founded in 1982 in the City of Luxembourg in the heart of Europe. Birmingham-based Stone Construction Company built the new ride.
