Park Construction

The Mindspinder, The Pirate, and The Tidal Wave brought VisionLand's ride installation count up to more than half. Next on the installation list were the bumper cars and log flume.


 

The Pirate, VisionLand's swinging ship, arrived at the park Tuesday, March 10th following a journey down I-65 and I-20/59 to its permanent home at VisionLand.


The official street sign designating VisionLand Parkway was installed by Bessemer Mayor Quitman Mitchell.



 

 

In May construction workers were busy finishing the brickwork on the retail shops, installing streetlights, and paving the sidewalks along Main Street.


Rampage Roars!!
The first footer for the 3600-foot long coaster was poured on July 25,1997. Rampage made its first test run on Monday, March 23rd, 1998. Passengers on the wooden coaster's maiden voyage were: Mayor Larry Langford, Mayor Quitman Mitchell, VisionLand Construction and Maintenance Manager Steve Conover, Custom Coaster associates, and park team members. Construction workers and other park team members cheered the incredible sight.


Rampage was ranked #2 in the world by Amusement Today and #5 in the world by Amusement Business.

 

 

Steel Waters waterpark construction finished soon afterwards. The water tower was installed adjacent to the Lazy River in Steel Waters waterpark. Lazy River riders float in giant tubes through geysers, curtains of water and other suprises along the journey.
