VisionLand and Oldies 106.9 FM gave away a brand new Chevrolet pick-up truck provided by premier Chevrolet to Brenda Turner, the 500,000th visitor to enter the park gates at 11:15 on Thursday, June 17, 1999.
Last year, Ina Smith, a service representative at BellSouth who resides in West End, was the 43rd person to come through the gate on August 10th. Ironically, as Mrs. Smith, her son Jonathan, and her nephew, Brandon Lucky moved from one line to the next, they let four people move in front of them. Her kindness was paid back minutes later when she was surprised with the car keys as she came through the gate.
VisionLand's 500,000th guest was based upon attendance since the park opened in May 1998. The special event "Holiday at the Park" attendance of 28,346 is not included in this count.
Mrs. Turner won the truck on her first visit to VisionLand, and was accompanied by her daughter, son, daughter-in-law, and four grandchildren. She resides in Adamsville, one of the cities of the West Jefferson Amusement and Public Park Authority. When asked about the park, she said, "I love it. I'll be back!"
